April - June 2007

Dear Friends:

It has been such an eventful year filled with blessings amidst the challenges. Our God has not stopped loving and caring for the souls of this city (almost 4 million) and I am constantly reminded that, "… where sin abounded, grace did much more abound." (Romans 5:20b).

Missions:

One of our main goals is to encourage the national believers to send, support, and sustain their own missionaries. The Lord has allowed part of this to happen in a slow yet consistent gradual growth. The ministry here is now constantly involved with local and overseas outreach. In April we held a mission's conference and Pastor Larry Jones of Santa Fe, Texas, was our speaker. Pastor Larry and his wife Carol ministered grace to our hearts. Please pray for God to do what we can not do.

Little Big Day Out (LBDO):

During the winter break (it's winter now) we held a three day children's program that runs all day. The Lord gave us 104 children on the first day and we had about 115 registered by the third day. We do not have our own building and we use the same school that we rent for our regular services. It was a joy to see children, and over 25 children workers, packing the place with music, activities, and most importantly, a clear presentation of the love of Christ. At least 80 of these children don't attend church and most of them never heard the great news of being in the family of God. Twelve children expressed their faith in receiving Christ. LBDO is also a leadership training avenue for adults and teens. It was a blessing to see people working together with one purpose. Please pray for protected unity among the leaders and for wisdom, growth, and opportunity during the next few weeks of follow-up.

Discipleship:

I have had the privilege of teaching six new families some of whom asked to be baptized. As mentioned before, Melbourne is not the place where people just like to go to church. I am glad that our mission has been able to lead them to Christ before we ever discuss church. People are surprised when I tell them that we do not belong to a "religion" and that I am not religious. One lady was so relieved when she discovered that she does not have to be "perfect" for Christ to receive her. Another asked me "What is grace exactly?" A young lady who recently trusted Christ said, "I have lived in England and Australia and I never heard about the grace of God." Please pray, because many, including Christians, have tried to hurt the message of the unconditional love and mercies of our Lord.

Leadership Training:

We simply train people, but it is God who raises them. We now have about 30 nationalities in the church and some come from backgrounds that do not understand leadership. It takes years to assist people in their growth and see results. We are encouraged by the outcome of LBDO and other ministries and we need your prayers to see, at the right time, the person God wants to take a new challenge. Pray specifically for Antony who works with the youth.

I can never thank you enough for being part of what God is doing here in Melbourne. Thank you for your prayers, your support, your many letters of encouragement, and your gracious spirit in loving and accepting us.

Your Missionaries,
Silas & Amanda
