February - April 2009
Dear Friends:
As always, God has shown His goodness to us in so many ways that I would need a few more pages to record just how amazing our Lord is.
Thank you for your continued prayers and faithful support of this strong and growing ministry.
First, I want to mention that Amanda and I are expecting our first child who is due early October.
We are both excited and everything seems fine thus far.
Please keep Amanda in your prayers.
Bush Fires:
On February 7th we experienced the worst bush fires in the history of this state.
Surrounding the Melbourne area and throughout the state of Victoria, the fires spread for days and over 200 people were reported dead or missing.
In some areas the fires travelled at a speed of 130 miles/hr.
This tragedy provided an opportunity for us to help in so many ways.
We had many of the young adults volunteer their time for relief efforts joining with other people in the community who also wanted to help (bottom three pictures.)
We also chose two families, one in our ministry and one who is unchurched, to help them financially and share the gospel.
It was such a tragic time but the opportunities to show love and care were endless.
Baptism:
The two pictures on the top left are of a young lady who trusted Christ and wanted to be baptized.
Lesley has tremendously grown in the grace and knowledge of Christ.
She is a vital part of the ministry and is already being fruitful in sharing the love of Christ with others.
Outreach:
The picture on the top right was during one of our morning services.
We had over 50 first-time visitors who wanted to see their friends sing in this one-time choir
(choirs are not big in Australia so this was something different for the average person.
We have done this twice so far.)
The gospel was preached and many are still asking questions or meeting with us during the week
(it is worth pointing out that there are seven nationalities represented in this one picture).
In the middle picture on the left, you see some of the young adults who are responding positively to the message of God's Grace.
We are in constant one-on-one discussions with many college students who have questions about Christ.
It is refreshing to be able to provide biblical truths to those who are searching.
Salvation by faith alone without any works challenge human nature.
Please continue to lift us up in prayer for:
- Silas and Amanda (according to 2 Peter 3:18)
- The ministry here (according to 2 Corinthians 4:2 and 2 Thessalonians 3:1-2)
- The people who are being trained according to (2 Timothy 2:1-2)
- The people who are hearing the gospel (according to John 17:20-21)
Silas & Amanda
